My wife and I were driving home this morning from church, and she said something that rang in my ears. My wife is wise - and I am wise because I listen to her. (Listen up boys!) She said, 'I really believe that what's happening is bigger than what's going on right here and now.' It sounds a little esoteric without some explanation. Our family is in transition. No transition is easy. There are challenges. There is grief. But we have to believe that our citizenship in God's kingdom and our call to care for orphaned children and the poor is bigger than the challenges.
We worshipped for the first time this morning at International Anglican Church in downtown Colorado Springs. It was a beautiful experiences. It was ancient and future. It was relevant and global. It was experiential and liturgical. God was present. That's what I said on the way home. One moment stood out to us. The gentleman who read the NT reading for the day, Romans 10:1-2, was in a wheelchair and had little control over his voice and his breathing. But his voice was beautiful when reading God's Word. It, among other things, made us realize: this is bigger than what's happening here and now. This isn't just a man with physical disabilities slowly and painfully reading a couple verse in the Bible. This is the voice of the saints. This is the family of God.
Over the next three days I'm going to blog on three topics: bigger eyes, wider embrace, and longer stride. You'll start to see what this blog and what this mission is all about. I challenge you this week to take on that posture. See that what's happening around us is in the heart of God and that's the most beautiful place to be.
