You may remember that we grieved together the death of Sergei Adveev, an orphaned young man who was murdered in February. Again we are grieving. This is the email we received...
Dear friends,
Unfortunately, we have more sad news to share with you. This last weekend on May 10, Sergei Ilyichev drowned in a lake just outside of Vladimir. This was a holiday weekend, and he was at the lake with several friends. Sergei and two others were in a boat on the lake, and the boat tipped over. He had never learned how to swim, and the water was very cold. Everything happened so quickly that those on the shore were able to save the other two, but not Sergei.
Today several of our staff attended his funeral at the cemetery. Sergei lived in our Vladimir Grace Home for about 6 months during the 2006-7 academic year. The Grace Home mother, Nadezhda, and two of the young men were also at the funeral as were many, many friends and staff from Karabanova orphanage (from which Sergei graduated) and Vladimir Tech 3 where he was currently a student.
Sergei recently turned 19, and all who knew him would describe him as an energetic, fun, kind young man who loved life.
Many here are grieving and in shock, and we would appreciate your prayers for all affected.
Vladimir staff
PS – We’d like to be able to place a permanent marker on Sergei’s grave, but that can only take place in about 6 months after the ground settles. We would like to ask if there would be an opportunity to find a donor or donors who’d be willing to donate to this need. We don’t know exactly how much this would cost and can let you know closer to that time. In the meantime, please let us know if you think this is a possibility. We would be grateful.
