My blogging has slowed down a bit lately. Don't worry (if you were). It will pick up again shortly. We've just been in the midst of a busy busy season that I'm here today to update you on...
Where I am going...
We are moving to Columbus, OH. In fact, my wife and kids are already there, I'll be there by Sunday. Family is very important for Julie and me, and while the friends and opportunities and sunshine and mountains we've enjoyed in Colorado have been life-changing, we've always had an eye on the chance to settle down in one of our hometowns. For those who know Columbus, we'll be living in Clintonville, the part of town we lived in when we were first married. We love that city (Go Bucks!) and expect it to be a great place to raise our young family - Judah will be 3 in May, Lucy is 15 months old, and another daughter is coming on June.
What I will do...
I'll be going on staff at a local church where I've been connected through friends for years, Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. More info on this, on the church, and my role there is forthcoming. And as you know, Julie started doma international last year and it will be my joy to be in ministry with her. It has always been our shared vision since we first met and married in 2001 and 2002 to do ministry on behalf of the world's poor together. This makes that possibility more real than ever.
What about HopeChest...
I've been full-time staff with HopeChest since March 2006, first in Virginia as Outreach & Development Manager, and then as Outreach Director in Colorado. Prior to that I was a very active volunteer for nearly 2 years. I've given myself to this ministry. I believe in the model and rejoice in the lives that I've seen transformed on both sides of the Atlantic - in American churches and in orphanages and orphan care points in Russia and Africa. I will continue working with HopeChest on a part-time basis from my new home in Columbus. I will focus primarily on the churches and sponsoring organizations (businesses, schools, online communities) already involved and will be encouraging and mobilizing them as they engage in sponsorship and travel.
You may notice from the tagline on this blog's title that I want to explore the intersection of creativity, community, and compassion. I have had an opportunity to live in that exciting place, and that will not change in my new lifestyle and new role. That's where I'm meant to be, and with my family, my new role in a local church, my ministry with my wife, and my continued connection to HopeChest, I will always strive to live at the point where creativity, community, and compassion collide and the kingdom of God begins to take shape.
