What is your net worth?
How does one even define and determine net worth?
Basically, net worth is the grand total of all of your assets minus all of your liabilities. So, in light of the gospel, how does one determine net worth?
The story of the rich young ruler told in Matthew 19, Mark 10, and Luke 18 is one of the more inspiring... and haunting... in all of the gospels. The man did what was right. He had a big house. And his house was in order. But Jesus asks him to calculate his net worth using a different formula.
What is the sweet spot, the zone, the pocket?
In music or sports, or even in business and relationships, the sweet spot, the zone, the pocket is that mysterious and meaningful time and place where what you have and who you are is reaching maximum potential. It is where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It is shalom - everything in its right place.
Does God call us to live in the sweet spot, the zone, the pocket?
According to author Frederick Buechner, 'The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet.'
What makes you glad?
What is the world hungry for?
Is that your sweet spot? Is that where you live?
Back to this idea of net worth...
A whole gospel (not hole gospel) approach to calculating net worth would see us adding up all of the gifts and experiences and abilities and opportunities and passion and grace that God has given us and subtracting from that the debt of love we owe.
You are rich! You are wealthy beyond imagination! And you are invited to give it all away.
